Who Are Bob Geldof and Midge Ure

Who are Bob Geldof and Midge Ure?

Bob Geldof
In the 70s Bob was the lead singer for the Boomtown Rats. Their most famous song was "I Don't Like Mondays" It's about a school shooting that happened in San Diego.
By 1978, they had achieved their first UK hit single "Rat Trap", and later achieved a second hit with ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’.

In 1981, Bob Geldof was invited to take part in a concert for Amnesty International and this sowed a seed of future ideas for Bob.

It was in 1984, that Bob moved from being a rock star to an international celebrity for raising awareness of humanitarian charities. In 1984, Ethiopia and other African countries experienced a severe famine which led to many thousands of people starving to death. The plight of starving children was widely seen on TV. Bob Geldof with Midge Ure decided to do something about it – releasing the single – “Do they Know its Christmas Time”. It was a spontaneous event with many of the best-known names in pop music invited. It became an instant bestseller selling a record 3 million copies.

Midge Ure
Midge is a Scottish singer involved in several bands and was the frontman for Ultravox. In 1984 he co-wrote the song "Do They Know It's Christmas" and is the second highest-selling single on the UK chart history. One of the key members of the new wave band Ultravox, guitarist/vocalist Midge Ure began his professional music career with Salvation, a Glasgow-based group that became the bubblegum band Slik in 1974. Upset in the change of direction, Ure left the band to join the Rich Kids, a punk-pop group led by former Sex Pistol bassist Glen Matlock. The Rich Kids only released one album, 1978's Ghosts of Princes in Towers, before breaking up later that year. Ure spent a brief time with the Misfits (not the American band) before forming Visage with drummer Rusty Egan and vocalist Steve Strange; he left the group to replace Gary Moore in Thin Lizzy, who had left in the middle of an American tour. After the tour was finished, Ure fulfilled an agreement to join Ultravox as the replacement for John Foxx.

The Last Post

The Last Post For the past weeks, my class has been working on a blog about ( The Last Post ), it is about ANZAC day, and every 25th of April there is a video posted on the internet about the ANZAC song or as it is called The Last Post... This is commemorated as the day that the war ended and to those that have passed away in the war.

Gallipoli Campaign

The Russians who were fighting on Germany's eastern front wanted the British and French to tackle the Turks to reduce pressure on Russia. The Anzacs Joined the British and French in a dreadful baptism of fire at Gallipoli. The British commanders anticipated that the Gallipoli peninsula would be "open to landing on very easy terms" and Turkey would have a force of only 40,000 to meet them. On 25 April 1915, the Anzacs landed at a difficult and desolate spot on the Gallipoli peninsula and the Turks appeared to be ready for them.

Music Through Time

In Social Studies we have been learning about Slavery or Music Through Time.

Spirituals are different types of genres. For example Soul, RnB, Rap, Rock and Roll, and Gospel.  Spirituals were used by slaves for a long time since 1600-1895 and are still used today.  Slaves used spirituals to communicate and to help each other out to either escape or even just communicate with each other.

Who Is Harriet Tubman?
Well, Harriet Tubman was a woman born into slavery, she is famous for helping thousands of slaves escape, she used songs to send messages and to help the slaves, she helped the slaves escape through an underground railroad out of the slave states, the underground railroad isn't really a railroad there isn't any trains or roads there are just tunnels that are scattered and some lead to safe areas for the slaves.

2. Explain who Harriet Tubman and what the Underground Rail was
Harriet Tubman used "Wade in the Water to tell slaves to get into the water to avoid being seen and make it through. This is an example of a map song, where directions are coded into the lyrics. The secret lyrics that have the hidden meaning of the song is "Wade In The Water" because runaway slaves were better to wade in the water so slave catchers and dogs could not sniff them out.

Chorus:

Wade in the Water, wade in the water children.

Wade in the Water. God’s gonna trouble the water.
Who are those children all dressed in Red?
God’s gonna trouble the water.
Must be the ones that Moses led.
God’s gonna trouble the water.

Chorus
Who are those children all dressed in White?
God’s gonna trouble the water.
Must be the ones of the Israelites.
God’s gonna trouble the water.

Chorus
Who are those children all dressed in Blue?
God’s gonna trouble the water.
Must be the ones that made it through.
God’s gonna trouble the water.

Atomic Science: Periodic Table

What does the periodic table show us?

The periodic shows us elements and features of many different things and how or what we do, on the periodic table there are elements, mass numbers, atomic, and different columns or rows of the different elements, the features of the elements-(Alkali metals, Transition metals, Gases)
The periodic table show elements also including calcium, lithium, copper, helium, and many more other elements/physicals properties, they are all very different and even some are compacted with each other for another outcome and some are mixed with others.

Alkani Metals: alkani metals are metals that can react with any other element on the periodic table because of how many electrons aren't in them, the alkani metals consist up of different  metals including Lithium(Li), Sodium(Na), and more, they can be found in the 1 column of the periodic table, how they can mix with other elements is because they don't have enough electrons to stay or be stable.

on Friday we had a little experiment, on the day the experiment consisted of lithium (li) and sodium (na) and also cold water + universal indicator,
